Head of Marketing and Communications


Tarides is an international software company with offices in Cambridge (UK), Paris (France) and Chennai (India), founded in 2018 by pioneers of systems and functional programming. We have a worldwide presence with collaborators working remotely from the US, Australia, Canada, India, Japan, and across Europe. Our diverse team of 60+ people performs groundbreaking innovation, feature development, and crucial maintenance of OCaml-based projects.

Some of those projects include the OCaml Platform, a series of crucial tools for OCaml at an industrial scale; MirageOS, an operating system that constructs unikernels for secure, high-performance applications; Irmin, a library for building mergeable, branchable distributed data stores, as well as the highly complex and award-winning Multicore project which will become part of the mainline OCaml compiler.

Tarides was previously part of the Founder program of Station F in 2018, and was selected for the “Concours d’Innovation i-Lab” award organised by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation in partnership with Bpifrance. Tarides was also recognised during the FIC (International Cybersecurity Forum) 2020 fair, a leading European event on cybersecurity. These awards acknowledge the high quality of the solutions developed by Tarides, and emphasise the interest they have gained from the cybersecurity community.

In 2022, OCaml Labs (a spinout from the University of Cambridge) and Segfault Systems (a spinout from IIT-Madras) both joined Tarides, aligning towards our shared mission: empowering developers, communities and organisations to adopt OCaml as their primary programming experience by providing training, expertise and development services.


We are looking for our first Head of Marketing and Communications who will lead all of our marketing activities from social media and community management to advertising and creative projects. This covers Internal Comms, PR, and Business communications.

We straddle the open-source and commercial markets, with all of our code released free and open to all. We are developers and maintainers of core OCaml tooling, and our goal is to communicate more proactively about the work we do in order to increase further adoption of our tooling. Communications and marketing in this sense will involve scheduling and producing content, identifying the different audiences and creating a release plan for the content. We also operate a commercial services arm that delivers specific technology solutions to other companies and organisations. Our goal is to talk publicly about the work we do and widen our reach to new partners and organisations.

As the first hire in the marketing team, the Head of Marketing and Communications responsibilities include developing plans to help establish our brand, allocating resources to different projects and setting short-term and long-term department strategy and goals. Ultimately, you will run our Marketing and Communications department in ways that promote our brand to our open-source community, candidates, prospective commercial partners, and our stakeholders.

You will report directly to our CEO and will manage a team of two people. You will support our 3 main locations: France, UK and India.


  • Define strategies for the Marketing and Communications team, including Digital, Communications, and Creative Design branding and positioning strategies

  • Ensure our brand message is strong and consistent across all channels and marketing efforts (including events, job boards, web pages and community channels)

  • Schedule, develop and manage PR and communication campaigns consistent with our brand image and public persona

  • Identify opportunities to reach new market segments and expand market share and to increase our brand awareness and adoption

  • Monitor competition (acquisitions, and new services or features)

  • Develop and maintain clear and engaging content for our public communications (including blog posts, PR announcements, newsletters, and social media)

  • Set, monitor, and report on team goals

  • Coordinate sales and marketing efforts to boost brand awareness

  • Serve as communications advisor to Tarides management

  • Support all departments in their marketing and communications needs

  • BSc or MSc in Marketing or relevant field

  • Broad experience in marketing, demonstrating the ability to oversee the entire function, preferably within our industry

  • Substantial experience in a senior management role, either in-house or with an agency

  • Experience designing branding and positioning strategies

  • Leadership skills with the ability to set and prioritise goals

  • Familiarity with open-source business and community models

  • Excellent communication skills in English

  • Experience communicating with a technical audience and managing relationships with project stakeholders

  • Curious and solution-oriented mindset

  • Experience in working within multidisciplinary teams
