Our diverse team of 60+ people performs groundbreaking innovation, feature development, and crucial maintenance of OCaml-based projects.

Some of those projects include the OCaml Platform, a series of crucial tools for OCaml at an industrial scale; MirageOS, an operating system that constructs unikernels for secure, high-performance applications; Irmin, a library for building mergeable, branchable distributed data stores, and the highly complex and award-winning Multicore project which will become part of the mainline OCaml compiler.

Tarides was previously part of the Founder program of Station F in 2018, and was selected for the “Concours d’Innovation i-Lab” organised by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation in partnership with Bpifrance. Tarides was also recognised during the FIC (International Cybersecurity Forum) 2020 fair, the leading European event on cybersecurity. These awards acknowledge the high quality of the solutions developed by Tarides, and emphasise the interest they have gained from the cybersecurity community.

In 2022, OCaml Labs (a spinout from the University of Cambridge) and Segfault Systems (a spinout from IIT-Madras) both joined Tarides, aligning towards our mission: empowering developers, communities and organisations to adopt OCaml as their primary programming experience by providing training, expertise and development services.

Work

Over the past three years, our team has grown to 65+ people worldwide with 90% of our people working in engineering. We are now looking to effectively scale our management and planning processes for the engineering department to match the growing numbers of engineers and projects.

As such we are looking for an experienced project manager to join our engineering team and help us scale these processes. You will report directly to the VP of Engineering. You will work closely with the engineering Team Leads, Lead Maintainers, Release Managers, and VP of Engineering to define and implement a planning process to enable us to deliver on our open-source objectives. You will also be responsible for ensuring this planning and OKR process is consistent across all teams, as well as reporting on project progress.

Responsibilities

OKRs
  • Work with engineering Team Leads and Release Managers to define OKRs aligned with the project scope and goals.

  • Help Team Leads write work specifications for KRs and define completion criteria.

Planning process
  • Define a common process for project planning across teams and ensure consistency. Support new team members and Team Leads in adopting the process.

  • Develop project scopes and objectives together with Team Leads, involving relevant stakeholders and ensuring feasibility.

  • Create project roadmaps with Team Leads and Lead Maintainers, providing realistic estimates of workload, timelines, and resources.

  • Track the project progress against the defined project plan.

  • Work closely with Team Leads to determine and facilitate required resources for new and existing projects.

  • Identify and minimise project risks, and support teams with issue resolution.

Reporting
  • Create and maintain reports for our commercial and community projects, with help from Team Leads and the Communications team.

  • Report and escalate problems to the relevant Team Leads, Release Managers, and the VP of Engineering.

  • Maintain an overview of all technical projects and their associated scopes, schedules and progress.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills in English.

  • Demonstrable experience of project management and administration in a technical environment, either in-house or as a consultant.

  • Technical background, with an understanding or hands-on experience in software development and associated technologies.

  • Solid organisational skills, including attention to detail and the ability to effectively multi-task.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Experience communicating with a technical audience and managing relationships with project stakeholders.

  • Curious and solution-oriented mindset.

  • Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams.

Process

If shortlisted, you will have three online interviews starting with a general interview, followed by a case-study interview, and finally an interview with the team.
